Eyad Hrebat is a Palestinian prisoner and victim of deliberate medical negligence in Israeli prisons. He was arrested at age nineteen for unknown reasons and given multiple life sentences. Since his arrest on July 21, 2002, Hrebat has been subjected to systematic mechanisms of slow killing. Hrebat experienced harsh and inhumane interrogation during his first three months of incarceration along with dozens of isolation periods thereafter.
In 2014, Hrebat was injected with an unknown substance leading to paralysis in his left hand and right foot. Hrebat experienced multiple beatings and was sprayed with poisonous gas causing body burns, nervous shivering in his head and body, speech problems, difficulty moving and temporary memory loss. Hrebat's memory loss was so severe that he couldn't recognize his family members when they visited him for two years. Hrebat recently had a urinary tract infection resulting in gangrened organs due to a lack of proper health care. Despite his extremely dangerous health condition caused by the occupation, Hrebat is consistently denied proper medical care.
Hrebat is now approaching his 20th year behind bars. While incarcerated, Hrebat got his BA in Political Science and International Relations, learned four languages, and became an instructor to his fellow prisoners. We are in awe of Hrebat's steadfast spirit despite the occupation's many efforts to torture and slowly kill him.
MD2Palestine demands the immediate release of Eyad Hrebat and the proper administration of his medical care.
